Reading Memories Routes at The Moving Gallery

Live art and multimedia installation by Alda Terracciano including sounds, prints, photographs, and audio recordings of Reading Buses passengers’ memories. 2017

The installation was commissioned by Anna de Amicis for The Moving Gallery (MG), a site-specific art project  in partnership with Reading Buses and with the support of Reading BID, Jelly and Marian Stindt. MG was a fully operational double-decker transformed into a temporary, travelling, curated art space. Exhibiting artists were William Lailey, Therese Lawlor Ben Mosher, Sam Stead, Alda Terracciano, and Tim Wilson/Gooey Eye. From December 11, 2017 to January 20, 2018, MG travelled on the usual routes across Reading, having regular bus passengers as the audience at no additional fee.

On the opening day of the Moving Gallery exhibition, the artist performed one to one Memory Sessions with bus passengers, asking them to share a memory of a place they would see from the bus in their daily journeys. The stories that emerged from these conversations were then woven together to form a web of collective memories, and a living archive of the city past re-experienced in its dynamic relationship with the present. The digital memories were displayed on the bus as an interactive audio installation and at Jelly Gallery. Listen to the memories here.
