Description: Yemanjà is part of my family history and celebrations. It makes me think of myself as a little girl, 6 or 7 years old, helping to build the presents for the Yemanjà and hearing about her. She is the patron of the seas and comes from the Candomblé tradition. We celebrate her every year on the second of February and the whole city gets ready for that, they wear white. The first memory that I remember connected to that is when I was in my aunt’s house and we were preparing the offering, the basket with presents for her: flowers, perfume – because she is very proud of her looks – and food. Also letters with anything you want to achieve, she will give it to you. And then we would go to the see and throw it there. If the sea brings it back it is because she has rejected your offer or because you are not going to get what you want, but you will get something that is right for you.
